What makes a fabric “performance”
Performance fabrics combine durable fibres with protective technology: stain and liquid repellency, fade resistance, and often resistance to odour, mildew and bacteria. Many are also rated for heavy-duty use, exceeding 100,000 double rubs.
How stain resistance works
Some fabrics have a finish that makes liquids bead on the surface; others use fibres that are naturally resistant, such as solution-dyed synthetics. Either way, blot spills quickly and follow the fabric’s cleaning code. Dining chairs, kitchen banquettes, family-room sofas and kids’ rooms benefit most.
Who they’re for
If you have children or pets, eat on the sofa, host often, or have furniture in a sunny room, a performance fabric is worth it. They’re also the standard for restaurants, offices and hospitality spaces.

What is the difference between performance fabric and Crypton?
Crypton is one brand of performance technology. “Performance fabric” is the wider category, which also includes solution-dyed fabrics and other stain-resistant finishes. All are designed to be easy to clean and long-lasting.
Are performance fabrics safe?
Many of our performance fabrics are PFAS-free and Greenguard Gold certified for low chemical emissions; look for those certifications in each fabric’s specifications.
