What makes chenille special
Chenille yarn has short fibres wrapped around a core, giving it a tufted, caterpillar-like texture (the word is French for caterpillar). Woven into upholstery, it creates depth and softness without the formality of velvet. It’s a favourite for family-room sofas, sectionals and reading chairs.
Choosing a durable chenille
Tighter weaves with a higher double-rub count resist snagging and pilling best. Solid and tone-on-tone chenilles are the most versatile, while chenille jacquards add pattern with the same soft hand. If you have cats, choose a low-loop chenille and order a sample to test it.
